I believe the return of precious metals to a central role in our monetary life is inevitable.  The silver coin proposal has great merit, will hasten the above process and is an idea whose time has come.

Bill Murphy:
It's nice to see Jason Hommel's fight to make silver coin legal tender in the US.  Hugo Salinas Price, who attended GATA's historic gold conference in Dawson City on August 8th and 9th, has led the charge for nearly a decade to make the Libertad legal tender in Mexico. In his brilliant presentation in the Yukon, Hugo stated that times were going to change as far as using gold and silver as money.

We are already seeing the early vestiges of this change in sentiment via recent announcements by central banks that they intend to increase their central bank gold reserves. This is a significant variance from the last decade when all we heard about was central bank dishoarding their gold.

GATA fully supports Jason's silver coin proposal and would like to be of help any way we can.

David Morgan:
The abandonment of the U.S. dollar is nigh, many foreign governments now prefer to buy gold rather than U.S. bonds, and this is what takes place near the end of all great inflations. In other words, the market itself wishes to abandon the "official" script and furnish their own medium of sound media of exchange--money of genuine and increasing value, administered with integrity.

It is always the minority that changes the course of a civilization. Mr. Hommel has ventured forth to lead not only his readers but also state officials to once again grapple with the truth of honest money. Honest weights and measures, value for value, although many state officials have ignored his initial messages, many of Mr. Hommel's readers have sent inquires to California's governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

This valiant move took courage and foresight, what will become of Mr. Hommel's proposal has yet to be determined, yet history has determined the fate of every un-backed currency in times past. The Silver Investor wishes every success to Jason in his effort to enlighten state governments of what every official still takes an oath to uphold. Namely “No State shall make any thing but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debt” U.S. Constitution.
